Cristina Agustí

Cristina Agustí PhD (she/her) is an Epidemiologist working at the Center for Epidemiological Studies on Sexually Transmitted Infections and AIDS in Catalonia (CEEISCAT) and is the coordinator of the multi-disciplinary group on incorporating gender perspective in the monitoring of AIDS and STDs in Catalonia. She is also a passionate activist at local community level.

Natàlia Blay

Natàlia Blay (she/her) is a bioinformatician at the GCAT Genomes for Life Project at the IGTP. She is a Data Manager and PhD student, studying the effect of genetic and non-genetic factors in the development of chronic disease trajectories. In 2024, she joined the Women 4 Equity in Science working group (W4E) with the objective of working to improve equity in science. Contact Natàlia here

Sara Cabrero-de las Heras

Sara Cabrero-de las Heras, PhD (She/her) is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Virus Host Interaction Team at IrsiCaixa. Her research is focused on the description and characterization of immune biomarkers of therapeutic response to CDK4/6inhibitors in patients with advanced breast cancer. This research project is a component of a translational project in breast cancer, coordinated by Ester Ballana and Mireia Margelí.

In 2023, Sara obtained her PhD in Biomedical research from the University of Barcelona. In May 2023 she joined the Women 4 Equity in Science working group (W4E) with the willingness to raise awareness on campus and contribute to equity in research.

Harvey Evans

Harvey  Evans (she/her) is a communications officer for the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP).

Harvey studied Biology at Sheffield University and has enjoyed working with scientists and academics since then. She has lived in Spain for over 30 years and is a firm believer in policy changes to bring about institutional change to improve equality in research institutions. Contact Harvey Evans

Xavier Farré

Xavier Farré Ramon, PhD (he/him) is a Postdoctoral Researcher at GCAT | Genomes for Life, based at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP).

He earned his PhD in Biomedicine from Pompeu Fabra University (2022), focusing on the genetics of ageing and its shared architecture with early-onset diseases. His expertise includes GWAS analysis, comparative genomics, and bioinformatics.

Since 2020, he has been studying the shared genetic architecture of traits and diseases, while broadening his skills in multi-omics data integration. He joined Women for Equity in Science (W4E) in 2024. Contact Xavier here

Julia García-Prado

Julia García-Prado, PhD (She/her) is leader of the Viral Immune Evasion and Vaccines (VIRIEVAC) Group at IrsiCaixa.

Julia’s research focuses on on HIV-1 as a model of persistent viral infection her ultimate research goal is the design of new therapeutic strategies against the virus. Currently she is also working on vaccines for SARS-CoV-2. In parallel, Julia is also Scientific Director of the IGTPn addition to her research work she is dedicated to improving equality and justice and the participation of women in decision making in biomedical research. Susana Iraola

Susana Iraola Guzmán, PhD (she/her) is the Laboratory Coordinator & Scientific Project Manager of the GCAT|Genomes for Life Project, a prospective epidemiological study of the Catalan population at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP).

Susana is a pharmacist with a PhD in Human Genomics (UB, 2012). Much of her work has focussed on identification of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in complex diseases, development of novel methods of detection in the lab and she has participated in pioneering projects with applications for GCAT. In science multi-disciplinary projects intersecting different fields help her tackle problems from different perspectives, whereas, inclusivity and equality drive her personal interest. Nuria Izquierdo-Useros

Nuria Izquierdo-Useros, PhD is a group leader at IrsiCaixa.

Nuria is a biologist who did her post-doc at Heidelberg University in Germany. Since 2020 she has led an independent group at IrsiCaixa focused in emerging pathogens and microbial threats. She is a founding member of the WiS working group at Can Ruti and is actively committed to promote gender equity on Campus. Contact Nuria Izquierdo-Useros

Elisa Molina Molina

Elisa Molina Molina (she/her) is a PhD student in the Pathogens, Immunity, Signaling and Therapeutic Applications at Irsicaixa AIDS Research Institute. Elisa obtained her Bachelor degree in Biomedical Sciences and a Msc in Advanced Immunology. In her PhD her research focuses on the study of novel antiviral and immunomodulatory therapies against SARS-CoV-2. In 2023, she joined the Women 4 Equity in Science with the desire to take more  steps towards achieving equity in the research field.

Sara Morón-López  

Sara Morón-López PhD (she/her)  is a post-doctoral researcher of the Retrovirology and Clinical Studies research group at the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute.

Sara obtained her PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2016 and moved to the University of California San Francisco (California, USA). After her post-doctoral stage abroad, she came back to IrsiCaixa to continue her research on viral persistence and to do her bit to improve equality in research. Contact Sara Morón-López

Anna Pons-Grifols

Anna Pons-Grifols (she/her) is a PhD student in the Cell Virology and Immunology group at IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute. Her research is focused on the study of HIV-1 Elite Controllers and the design and characterization of new immunogens as the best candidates to be incorporated asa vaccine candidate for HIV-1.

In 2019, Anna obtained her MSc in Immunology and Inflammatory Diseases from the University of Glasgow, after which she started her PhD studies at IrsiCaixa. In 2021, she joined the Women in Science working group (WiS) with the willingness to raise awareness on campus and contribute to equality in research. See Anna Pons on Linked In.

Dàlia Raïch Regué

Dàlia Raïch Regué, PhD (she/her) is an associate researcher at the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute.

She obtained the PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2012 and moved to the University of Pittsburgh (PA, USA) to pursue a postdoctoral stage. After that, she worked at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park, and then moved to IrsiCaixa to expand her research on SARS-CoV-2 antivirals. Inés Velasco

Inés Velasco, MD PhD (she/her) is a Medical Consultant in Obstetrics and works as Clinical Research Coordinator in Obstetrics and Gynecology at University Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol.

Inés obtained her PhD from the University of Seville in 2009. Her field of expertise extends from micronutrients (iodine, selenium) to bioactive compounds and hormones involved in fetal growth and neurodevelopment. She holds a Master Degree in Research Methodology and participates as Research Project Evaluator for national and international agencies. She was a new member in 2021.

Concepció Violán

Concepció Violán, PhD (She/her),  Specialist in Family Medicine is leader of the Research Group on the Impact of Chronic Diseases and Their Trajectories (GRIMtra)  Group at IDIAPJGol and IGTP.

She has over 30 years of experience in decision-making within the healthcare field, focusing on improving clinical practice and enhancing the functionality of health systems through high-quality research. Her main research areas include:

Information and Registration Systems: Developing and utilizing systems to enhance the management and clinical practice of primary care, using data provided by the Information System for the Development of Research in Care (SIDIAP).

Epidemiological Study of Multimorbidity and frailty: Employing advanced statistical methods to analyze multimorbidity patterns. This includes significant progress in understanding the trajectories of multimorbidity patterns, identifying how these patterns evolve over time, the duration individuals remain within a specific pattern, and the dynamics of such patterns
