Can Ruti Women for Equity in Science has three main areas of activity

See below

W4E Training and Events

The members of Can Ruti Women for Equity in Science (WiS) believe in promoting data driven policy and change. One of our main activities is to hold events to inform researchers and other members of our research community on research and issues relating to gender equality in research institutions and the gender dimension in research.

Every year we hold a Symposium, a few days before 11 February, the International day of Women and Girls in Research. The symposium lasts for one morning and as well as reporting on the activities of the group over the previous year and the conference observatory a particular topic is discussed. The discussion involves participation of the delegates attending and invited participants, both members of the Can Ruti research community and external speakers.

The W4E also invites speakers to give seminars on relevant topics focusing on careers for women in science and including the gender dimension in research..

Can Ruti Women for Equity in Science Conference Observatory

When Can Ruti Women for Equity in Science Working Group (formerly Women in Science (WIS)) started its activities in the end of 2018, the members noticed that many conferences on the campus did not represent the diversity of researchers working in the field concerned. Although some of the institutions on the campus have an inclusive policy for conferences, not all do. Thus, the group included the so-called Can Ruti Women for Equity in Science Conference Observatory as one of its main goals.

The W4E decided to gather data on this aspect annually and they took the guidelines from Horizon 2020 as their recommendations. Horizon Europe recommends 50% representation of women on boards and we can expect that the rules for the European Commission funding events will reflect this. Current European policy promotes the equal representation of men and women in research and innovation.

The Can Ruti Women in Science Conference Observatory records the number of women and men as speakers or chairs of the scientific conferences, workshops, and symposiums on the campus and reports on its activity each year at the W4E symposium. Additionally, after this announcement, the WiS establishes contact with the organizers to provide the feedback about their scientific event specifically.

Presenting the data each year W4E has seen an improvement in gender balance of speakers and organizers of symposiums organized on the campus, or by institutions on the campus.

Can Ruti Women for Equity in Science supporting equality on the Can Ruti Campus

The members of Can Ruti Women for Equity in Science (W4E) have been working with data on equality issues in the Catalan biomedical research sector since 2018. They also participate in varied activities to promote equality as individuals or as members of equality committees of their respective institutions. Members of the group have participated in the community of practice for biomedical research LifeSciCop, supported by the European Project on Gender ActOnGender, the Hipatia programme run by the Catalan Agency for Health Quality and Evaluation (AQuAS) and the Clinical Commission on Gender and Health at the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital.
